Moschino is pleased to announce their inclusion in the 2013 “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibition at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art opening in New York on May 9 through August 14, 2013.

The 2013 Costume Institute Exhibition will examine punk’s impact on high fashion from the movement’s birth in the 1970’s through its continuing influence today.

Moschino has designed punk elements into its collections over the years, often resulting in unexpected and provocative pieces. Safety pins and metal studs have been used to decorate everything from evening dresses and bustiers, to Spanish torero jackets. “Couture“ inspired evening gowns have been fashioned from plastic trash bags. The black leather biker jacket is one of Moschino’s signature pieces, in one case, metal thimbles replace traditional studs. Tartans have been used throughout Moschino’s history as well, including a menswear jacket which has been “punked”, doused in dripping black paint. The words “God save Prince Charles” are embroidered on a knit union jack shawl parodying both the royal family and Sid Viscious’s famous t-shirt. Moschino’s punk inspired irreverence can be seen in another slogan “Stop the Fashion System!” which was used in the 1990 advertising campaign.

The styles featured in the exhibition include creations from the 1990’s archive to the present:
1994 Garbage bag heart shaped bustier dress with bow at the chest and matching shawl. This dress was featured in this year’s Costume Institute/Metropolitan Museum of Art Press Preview.
1994: Garbage bag dress with corseted top in black and multi-tiered skirt in white. The top is made from industrial garbage bags and the skirt is made from plastic shopping bags.
1995: “Save the Sea” swimsuit.
2009: Tulle gown with burst of Swarovski crystals and safety pins.

Moschino Creative Director Rossella Jardini will host the following guests at the Gala to be held on the evening of May 6th: actress Lily Collins, actor Jamie Campbell Bower, singer Kylie Minogue, fashion icon and musician Pixie Geldof, producer Livia Firth and actress Carina Lau.
